Task 3 - "what kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?"
A production company is responsible for the development and physical production of any new media. A distributor is a company that is responsible for marketing the film and delivering it to the public.
Our distributor is called "Global Films" was inspired by "Universal Studios" because it's a very successful distribution company and the gold around the titles symbolises that, meaning success and greatness. Also their well known logo of the world turning round gave us inspiration for our distribution company "Global films". We decided on the name "Global films" because we thought we want our film to appeal to a global audience so we thought it was relevant for our distribution company. The colours used blue, green and white, don't relate to a specific genre which means it doesn't give away much, like what type of film it is. For example the colours black and red are well known colours for the horror genre. This is because red resembles blood or danger which is in all horror films, so it's a common colour used when thinking about colours for distributors, production and even titles. We decided not to use these colours but to use blue, green and white, this is because we wanted to make ours different from other distribution companies. The colour blue however is a colour that doesn't have associations to a particular genre, it can be widely used in different genres which is why we used it for our distributor. We had the sound of a trumpet in the background of our distributor because we thought it fitted in well with the moving image we got of the world spinning. We tried a few different soundtracks to go with our distributor but this was the one we thought worked best with ours.
We came up with "D.O.A productions" (Dead On Arrival ) for our production company. We thought the moving image of flatline monitor linked in well with our horror opening title sequence because in are sequence we have a hospital/ lab room where the scientist is testing on the zombie, so the monitor resembles a hospital/lab.
This is the order of our opening titles:
Global Films presents
D.O.A productions
A film by Zoren Jones
Subject 17
Starring Adele Cripps
Andrew Armitage
Melanie Evans
Brett Tyler
Casting by Sally Arkell
Music by Michelle Gillison
Production designer Lauren Morris- Cope
Edited by Paul Green
Director of photography George Fox
Written and Directed by Joseph Gray
We included the most important titles in our sequence. We looked at what other horrors used in their titles and took on a similar order. By having our production company and distributor first, it shows the importance of both of them. Our title then came next as if it was near the end of the titles then our sequence would be similar to a trailer instead of a opening sequence. Our actors then followed this as they had a huge part in the making. Making sure our titles flowed, our next title was "Casting by Sally Arkell" so it links in with our actors. We then had "Music by Michelle Gillison" "Production Designer Lauren Morris-Cope" and "Edited by Paul Green" titles as they were all very important roles within the making of our opening sequence. Our final title was "Written and directed by Joseph Gray" We had this as our last title, as we noticed on all the horror opening sequences we watched, they all ended on this same title.
